3 month old Sun conure beak swelling.

by Kim Griffin
(Manila, Philippines)

Sun Conure beak swelling

Sun Conure beak swelling

I have my beautiful 3 month old sun conure for about a month now, Im worried about its beak, because the left upper side of his beak is kind of swelling, soft and a little of it is peeling away. White stuff are peeling and underneath is white greyish. The swelling and peeling happened 3-4 days ago.

His eating habit is normal and still playful. I feed him fruits, sunflowers. Ive been trying find an Avian Vet here in the philippines in Metro manila, and still looking for one just to make sure he's okay.

Keep looking for an Avian Vet and you may have to drive a ways so be prepared to do so. I think this may be from an injury and it sounds like it may be infected, so you will have to find an Avian Vet. Please do not take him to a regular dog and cat vet unless they have an Avian Vet on staff. To find out, you'll need to call around and see. They usually advertise this, and they may not in your country. Also, some dog and cat vets have also put in the extra years of classes and labs and are also licensed as Avian Vets so do call around and see if this may be the case.

Let us know who you find and what they have to say. I wish you the best. Also, look around your bird's cage and make sure there are no wires or sharp edges on or in cage or toys. It looks as if he cut himself, and he would have done this on a piece of exposed wire or a sharp place on cage. The powdercoat cages sometimes have a few sharp places where the powder coat was not smoothed down, and they make a sharp point. They are hard to find, so use your fingers to run all the wire in the cage. This takes a while, and is worth the effort as your bird will get hurt over and over if you don't find what did this. If you find any, you'll need a file so you can file this down where it no longer poses a threat.
