7 Week old African Grey

Hi i am a first time bird owner,

I am getting my baby in a few weeks, we have bought a big cage but i am not sure what he must live in while he is so young

We work all day so i am thinking about a box in the cage with shavings in it.

Please help

7 week old bird in cage?

If the bird can not perch, then a big cage is certainly not the place for it. Please read Dr B's To Wean or Not To Wean article and reconsider getting this bird now, if is not weaned.

I am not a breeder, but from what I can tell by Dr B and Linda's answers, shavings are not a good idea for baby birds to be sitting on. I don't know if it is available in your country, but something called dri-dek is suggested here. It keeps the birds from getting splay leg, doesn't get moldy and birds can't chew it.
