9 month old conure parrot seems to have slipping / gripping issues

she is really not overly Squawky / loud for more than a few minutes maybe a couple of times a day and she alway seems to be rapidly flapping her wings ... I don't think she has ever experienced flight since she has been wing clipped from day 1.... but i have notice she has trouble slipping or gripping to her perches or my shoulder or hand and has actually fallen a few time inside her main cage ... i need to know if this is natural or is there something needed trimming on her toe nails or what??? I worry she's going to break a tail feather since she does have a long tail feathers... is there anything i can do to reinforce her confidence or gripping ability???

Conure with grip issues
by: Tracie

I strongly suggest you take your bird to an avian vet for it's yearly exam now, instead of waiting until the year is up. Sometimes a tumor will cause grip problems, and waiting would be bad if this is the issue.

Other things that cause problems like this, are the lack of various perch sizes and materials to exercise your birds feet, and an improper diet.

Make sure your bird is eating 80% healthy pellets like Harrison's and only 20% healthy treats.

Provide various perches. Our avian vet suggests having at least one Rope Boing or perch, a couple of Polly's Pastel Pedicure Perches and some natural wood branches throughout the cage. Throw out the dowels, if that is what you are using.

Thanks for writing, and I hope these things help and that your bird gets a clean bill of health.
