About the egg

by SRIKANTH
(India)

These are the lovebird couples :)

These are the lovebird couples :)

Our female parrot Laid an egg and the male is pecking on the egg and destroying it. Should i seperate them in a different cage. it is the third egg it has destroyed...

And also i would like to know whether i should make a nest for her, as for now she goes inside the pot and lays it.

Would like to hear more advice on how to care for her and her egg.
Kindly let me know as soon as possible before this bugger pecks on the new egg too..

Thanks a ton in advance
Srikanth

Yes seperate the birds immediately he is doing this because of the attention the female is paying to the eggs.
Get her a proper nestbox & put bird lining into it so that she has the comfort & warmth for the eggs then when they hatch it will carry on for the chicks themselves.
Do not let the male back in with the female when she has eggs then chicks they will have to be kept seperated at these times.
I had exactly the same problem with my Cockatiels with the male killing a 2 day old chick they now live in seperate cages quite happily side by side.
