Wild Mexican red head
by: Kelly

I have a Mexican red head named hank. He was wild caught and is scared of my family when we walk by him or make sudden movements.I sometimes put my face to his cage and he gets scared. He used to back away and makes sorta hissing noise, but not exactly, when I did that.He even meows alot and my mom gets mad!He has a toy and he bites it.He also makes these weird noises only when Im around.I think he is starting to warm up to me.I feed him apples, peanuts, sunflower seeds[but not too many], and other things.Sometimes he is so sweet.Im wondering....what do I need to do to get him to trust me better?

Biting Mexican Red Headed Amazon
by: Tracie

Hello Darlene,

I am sorry to take so long to get to your question!

What a beautiful bird you have! I love the Mexican Red Headed Amazons.

Yes, your bird can learn to love and trust you and not bite. Amazons will give you a warning before they bite, their eyes will "pin" and when you learn this you can avoid some bites.

Patience and love is the key, oh and food! LOL Most Amazon Parrots love to eat. Find a favorite treat and use it only for training purposes.

Let us know how it goes. Please post your picture and story later under our parrot stories for others to learn from your experience.
