African grey congo- weak legs

by Vicki
(Nashville,TN)

Hi,
I'm not sure what is going on with our AGC. Her legs seem to be weak and she's keeping her feet clinched shut.
She also seems to have hick cups.
She is trying to climb in her cage but has to hang on with her beak but wants to hang upside down or if she's on her perch she will rest her head on her feed bowl.
She is eating and drinking as normal and talking.
Thanks- Vicki

African Grey with weak legs
by: The Vet

Many things may be causing this, all of which need to be diagnosed and treated by an avian veterinarian.

It may be that your bird is calcium deficient, which can be corrected by a better diet. You should be feeding 80% pellets, such as Harrison's. This will help prevent problems in the future, but will not correct the current condition. You need to get to an avian veterinarian as soon as possible.

Take potentially sick birds to avian vet
by: Tracie

Please take your bird to an avian vet asap. Please remember that Dr. B may not respond for several days to your question and if your bird has an illness it may be too late.

Also, even though he may inform you what might be wrong, he will not be able to be sure and will not be able to treat your bird, so you will eventually have to take your bird to an avian vet anyway.
