African Grey Neck

I have an African Grey parrot. He has an opening just underneath his beak on his neck. It looks like an opening in his skin that connects his beak to his neck. It looks really weird, and I am wondering if this is normal.

Your grey is fine. I help out at a bird rescue and there are many greys there. Timnehs and Congos. They all have that opening underneath there beak. Enjoy your feathered friend

Intermandibular space on birds
by: The Vet

I think you might be referring to the intermandibular space. This is the space underneath the lower beak that has skin over it. This is normal. It is where the tongue is located inside of the beak. If you think that your bird has an injury you should have him examined.
