Well, I hate to be the one to have to tell you this, but if you don't already know what is needed for breeding birds, you are no where ready to do so.

There are many things to learn about breeding birds, and many things that influence whether it will be successful or all babies will die.

First of all birds have to be at least 6 years to be able to breed, and you'll need a "breeding" cage with a flap so you can hang the nestbox with most of it outside the cage and only the hole and little perch inside. These boxes are made with a hinged door in back so eggs can be checked and so babies can be weighed everyday to see if they've all gained weight. If one has not, then all are sick and will need to go to Avian Vet for diagnosis and treatment or they will all die. You also have to know how to handfeed baby parrot handfeeding formula using a syringe. This is a learned skill and has to be taught to you by a breeder who is willing to take the time to do so.

So, I suggest you do your homework BEFOER even dreaming of breeding the birds. There is not much money in breeding them if you feed high quality organic pelleted diet, take birds to avian vet on a regular basis. The only breeders that make much money are those who overbreed their birds, feed crappy diets and never take them to avian vet even when sick or injured. They just take dead birds and throw them in trash and use the rest. Breeding costs a lot of money what with new cage, nestbox, vet bills as parents have to be examined for infections BEFORE breeding and high quality food. Your birds need to be eating a high quality pelleted diet right now or they will not be ready to raise a family later.

So, as you can see, there's more to it than how the birds breed or what kind of box. Much, Much more, so you need lots of study and work if you want to do this. Good Luck,

Linda
