i have an african grey and he is very sweet and lovable. he likes to rub his beak up and down my face and hands and fingers. i am assuming this is a sign of affection, but i was just wondering if anyone else had any suggestions as to what this may be. he is about 1 1/2 - 2 years old. thanks!

It sounds to me like affection. Since you're the flock mate, he's mushing on you. If you give him wet or sloppy food, he'll probably use you as a napkin too. A lava rock, or cuttlebone, or sandy perch may be helpful to him to help keep his beak trimmed, if it looks too long to you.
Many good years w/ your buddy.

Parrots rub their beaks on people, perches and toys to rid them of food particles stuck to their beaks, so this is normal behavior. It you see any irritation in the beak or face area, then this could be something an Avian Vet needs to look into to see what it is, but it sounds like he's cleaning his beak and also showing affection.
