Age to get Blue and Gold and feeding?

Macaws take longer to fully wean, so you'll HAVE TO GET THE BREEDER TO SHOW YOU HOW TO HANDFEED HIM, AND HE WILL EAT BABY PARROT HANDFEEDING FORMULA.

You have to learn how to do this by watching it done and then by doing it yourself.REGULAR DIET NEEDS TO BE ORGANIC HIGH QUALITY PELLETS, AND TRACIE CARRIES THE HANDFEEDING FORMULA AND THE PELLETS OUT HERE. He can be offered the pellets during the day. DO NOT START HIM ON SEED MIXES AS THAT'S ALL HE'LL WANT ONCE HE BECOMES ADDICTED TO SUNFLOWERS, SAFFLOWERS AND SUCH. You may also offer him organic fruit and veggies which will need to be changed out every two hours as wet food goes bad quickly.NO HUMAN FOOD OR TABLE FOOD AS THIS WILL MESS HIM UP COMPLETELY!!!!

If they say he is fully weaned, I promise you he's NOT ready to wean at a little over two months of age.Offer bird the pellets, fruit and veggies while being handfed. Make sure fruit and veggies are NO more than 10% of the total offering a day including his formula or he'll stop eating his REAL FOOD WHICH IS THE FORMULA AND THE PELLETS. The pellets are organic with no preservatives, so they have to be changed out every twenty-four hours at least and kept refrigerated and warmed to room temp before feeding. Tracie carries several kinds, and baby bird may like a variety of shapes, textures and sizes for a while, so you may wish to buy several smaller bags/containers of several kinds of the organics. The other, cheaper brands are full of preservatives, pesticide/fertilizer residue and some chemicals that just do not belong in a very sensitive bird's diet.

So, to sum up, you need to buy handfeeding formula, several types of organic pellets, organic fruit, veggies and you need to LEARN HOW TO HANDFEED THIS BABY BIRD. All of them revert back to the baby once they are moved from their primary caregiver, so be prepared to feed him at least twice a day with the handfeeding formula. Bird will let you know when he is ready to stop the handfeeding formula. He will be eating a lot of the pellets and fruit/veggies you are giving him, so make a note of how much he eats of what each day.

Most people wean the Macaws and Cockatoos way too soon, and this causes emotional/mental/physical problems now and on down the road. Those two are the BIG babies of the parrot world and MUST be allowed to be babies for longer or they are damaged which leads to bad behaviors and lots of screaming later on.You want a nicely mannered bird, so you have to do the work with the Macaws and Cockatoos.

LASTLY, YOU'LL NEED TO TAKE HIM TO AN AVIAN VET FOR A CHECKUP SOON AS YOU BRING HIM HOME. Bacterial infections are common with baby birds, so he needs a clean bill of health.
