Agressive Jenday

My 2 year old jenday is a bird I adopted about 1 month ago. He is finger tame and will sit on my shoulders and preen me without problems. I cannto, however, pet him at all. He has recently begun lunging and biting me whenever I ask him to step up while he is in his cage. The only way to get him out is to have him stand on a food bowl and he lets me carry the bowl out with him on it. Since I am new at this, I need to know what I can do to help him ovecome this behavior. Thank you.

It sounds like the bird is testing the limits with you like a little child. You will have to work hard to find the balance of establishing trust with the bird and also letting the bird know you are in charge.

You want to respect the bird's wishes as much as possible by not forcing the bird to do anything against it's will. You want to encourage the behavior you want by giving treats when they perform as you wish. They will try to preform as you wish when they feel your love and want to please you.
