Alexanderine parrot talking

Can you still teach an older parrot to talk? She can say hello and a few sounds now.
I was told by a bird breeder that I have a female Alexanderine parrot who can be a few years old. Tame and will perch on your hand.

Can an older bird learn to talk?
by: Tracie

Yes, older birds can still be taught new words. The best thing you can do to help this along, is to develop a relationship with your bird. Learn it's body language and do some training.

We have some training articles on our Parrot Training page that will help you with this.

The bottom line is though, that every bird has to decide if it wants to learn new words, actions etc. All you can do is help it along and hope that you have found a reward it is interested in that motivates it to do what you want. Again, the relationship you have with the bird encourages the bird to want to please you, along with trusting that you will be faithful to reward it with praise, a treat or whatever.
