alexanderine parrots foot has flakes of skin coming off

This is not normal and can have many reasons why it is happening from severely dry skin to an infection or parasites. It can also reflect a very poor diet of seeds or junk pellets. Add some human food to the mix, and you can have a very sick bird here.

First, you will have to have your bird examined by an Avian Vet ONLY in your driving area. Do not take to dog and cat vet because they are not licensed or trained in the care and treatment of birds. They usually do nothing but give your bird many harmful meds while not even making a correct diagnosis. Worse than nothing.

Once he has been examined by an avian vet and either cleared for physical issues or given proper treatment then you can begin to look at diet and his environment.

Diet is very important, and we highly recommend organic pelleted diet like Harrison's. If you can get this food into the UK, it would be the bet diet on the planet for parrots of all species. It takes time to make the change from seeds or junk pellets, i.e., ZuPreem or Lafaebers or any pellet that has preservatives, dyes, sugars and other harmful chemicals in it. Harrisons is 100% nutrition and gives your bird all the vitamins, minerals and complex carbs and proteins you can find. Below is link on how to go about the change which does take time. Article is written by an Avian Vet who endorses Harrisons pellets for all parrots.

Switching Birds To Pellets article

Make no changes in diet until bird has been thoroughly examined for infections or other physical issues by an Avian Vet in your area. Birds under stress from a physical complaint cannot handle the stress of dietary changes.

Let us know what avian vet has to say and thanks for writing. Hope your little friend is better very soon!
