Allergy or sickness?

One of my parakeets scratches her head constantly with her feet and on hard objects. It looks like she's losing the feathers around her eyes and seems to be getting worse, slowly. Otherwise she seems fine...she eats, drinks, chatters, and is very social. Also, the male she shares her cage with has none of these symptoms.

Parakeet scratching

Scratching can be a regular molt as long as you don't see bare spots, but it sounds like you are seeing bare spots if feathers are missing around it's eyes.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link so you can have your bird examined to determine what is causing this.

Also, please look at our Toxic / Non-toxic for birds list in case you are using chemicals, including hair spray and air fresheners, around your bird that is causing problems.
