Bird biting foot until it bleeds
by: Tracie

Ouch! It could be an infection, and she is trying to bite to get to what is bothering her.

I suggest you Find an Avian Vet to examine your bird to rule out infection and to prescribe something if it is an infection.

I don't know what kind of perches you have, but if she has sore feet from wooden dowels, then this could cause issues also. It is best to provide a variety of natural wood perches, Rope Boings and Perches and a few Pedicure Perches too.

Totally throw out any wooden dowels that came with the cage. You don't need a perch that goes from side to side if you have a Rope Boing going down the center and other perches around the side. It actually provides more exercise and more areas to place toys, water bottles etc.

Oh, I forgot to mention that our avian vet says that most bacterial infections come from birds that drink and bathe in water that has been sitting for more than 3 - 4 hours. Providing a water bottle for drinking and then just placing water for bathing for a couple of hours may prevent infection.

Sorry for all the information, but since I can't see the bird I am just covering all the bases. Start with a vet visit to rule out infection. Don't go to a dog/cat vet, because they often accidentally kill birds due to lack of training and experience.
