Puffed up bird
by: Tracie

Birds often puff up to sleep, but if he stays puffed up he is sick. As a side note, the colored pellets are full of chemicals and often sugar. Please find a healthy pellet for your bird to eat. Harrison's or Roudybush pellets are the best if you can find them.

any thing to worry about

Yes, you need to get your bird to an Avian Vet ONLY to be checked for infections. Infections are common with new birds because of all the stress involved in moving to pet shop and then to a new home. Their immune systems become compromised, and this leads to infections. I do not think food has anything to do with it. We recommend all new birds be examined by an Avian Vet ONLY within the first few days we have them. This is because a lot of birds come to you already sick from pet store or breeder.

Take your bird to an Avian Vet only because dog and cat vets who have no experience with birds can kill your bird with the wrong diagnosis and treatment. Read the posting about the bird with the eye problem to see how much damage an untrained vet can do to your bird. Their bird may lose its sight if not both eyes as well or it could also die. The dog and cat vet made an incorrect diagnosis and prescribed the wrong meds for the bird making the problem much worse.

Thanks for writing,
