Carrots are excellent because they're full of vitamin A, beta carotene.

Strawberries have vit K, potassium, vit B1, B2, B6

Lettuce, it depends on which lettuce. Ice burg lettuce has little to no nutritional value. It is loaded with water & something that can be offered as a treat but it will cause their poops to be runny. This is not to be mistaken with diarrhoea. Watery poops are due to food with high water content (ice burg lettuce). Diarrhoea is due to a bug or illness. Darker green, asian or red lettuces all have very good nutritional content.

IMO I do not think you should reserve fresh fruit & veggies as a treat only & not allowing them to eat them until they have eaten most of their pellets. My own avian vet (very experienced) has my birds on a healthy human fresh fruit & veg & sprout diet & pellets & seeds on the side. Go to your own avian vet & get their advice as they are all different. My birds have been on their diets for 9 years. They are all healthy & offering your birds a huge variety of foods daily will prevent them from being fussy eaters.

safe treats for lovebirds
by: Tracie

Carrots are find for your birds. Just make sure that the healthy treats are only 20% of the diet and make sure that you purchase organic vegetables so that you are not feeding your bird the chemicals they spray on the crops.

Your bird should be eating 80% healthy pellets, like Harrison's or Roudybush and only 20% treats. Don't feed the treats until they have eaten at least most of their pellets, because just like kids they will eat the fun stuff first.

Here is our non-toxic for birds list for you to study. When you feed your bird things like blueberries their poop will change color, so don't let it freak you out.
