Artificial trees in my bird cage

It would be a good idea NOT to put anything like that in your bird's cage. Artificial trees and plants are made of poisonous materials, and birds should not have access to these materials.Birds can only be kept around safe plants and wood. Having anything known to be a poison either in their cage or in their room is taking a needless chance with your bird's life. Also remember that Poinsetta plants are highly poisonous as their stems and trunk hold poisonous fluids as do all succululent plants. Keep holiday decor, including plants well away from bird. Burn NO scented candles or poupouris as these are toxic for birds as well as the plug in room deoderizers and the spray kinds. Basically a bird home is a chemical-free home including fingernail polish and remover, perfumes including scented dryer sheets. Use only bird safe cleaners, rug shampoos, etc.

If your cage is a regular size either Amazon or Macaw cage, there is not room in there for any kind of plant. If you have an Aviary size which would be 12 foot by 12 foot by 12 foot or larger, you could have something safe like a Banana tree. The ornamental Banana plants are safe until they get fruit which is inedible and poison for birds.

So, decorate your bird's room with safe plants, and there is a list of safe trees and plants on this site. Keep all plastic and synthetic materials out of cages and rooms entirely.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
