Bald cockatiel

by Bob Klepner
(Newbury Park, CA)

I purchased a cockatiel 2 mos ago, a young male. He lacked a lot of his feathers on the top and sides of his head and is still bald, to date. Otherwise, he appears to be healthy. His diet consists of pellets, carrots, spinach and seed. I haven't noticed any mites on or around the head area. Is this a concern? I was hoping the feathers on his head would grow back but that hasn't happened yet.

He shares a large cage with another male but the cage is separated by a center divider so there is no physical contact between them.

Thanks

Bob Klepner

Cockatiel missing feathers
by: The Avian Vet

This could be a symptom of disease. You need to have him examined by an avian veterinarian for sinus infection, skin disease and other possible causes.
