Beak pigment change

by M Sjalund
(Long Beach, CA, USA)

My 8 month old sun conure is nearing the end of his first moult; he is also a very petite sun nearing only 104-108g. He is now presenting with lighter grey streaks in his beak. I am getting ready to take him to his avian-only vet but that wil cost me an average of 500 dollars. Do I need to be worried about this condition?

FYI I take this bird to the avian vet every 3mo; he has been on Harrison's diet since weaned, pellets consists of 80% diet, eats teaspoon fruit/day, tablespoon high vit A veggies/day.

Beak pigment

If you are going to see you veterinarian anyway, then make mention while you are there. What does your veterinarian do for $500? A well bird visit in my hospital is $200.00 and that includes vaccines and blood work. He is on an excellent diet. I think this may just be normal beak growth, but have it looked at to be sure.
