Behavior of blue and gold macaw

My 11 year old blue gold Macaw will not stay on his perch. He has his own bedroom with a big play gym. He normally gets up about 8 and plays and sits on different perches threw out the day. But lately he will get down and comes out and them wants to bit my feet. He then runs back and gets into his cage. He gets verry aggressive so I have to shut the door. I have tried putting him on his cage after he does this then I go back and let him out but then he does it all over again. What should I do?

Macaw biting
by: Tracie

We have some articles on our Parrot Training page that might help you, but you might have to hire a behaviorist if you don't have time to train the bird yourself.

I know it must be disappointing and frustrating to have such a big beautiful bird suddenly decide coming to bite you to get your attention is fun. One thing I would try, if I were you, is to spend time with the bird before it does this, and see if that cuts off this behavior. Or bring one of the play stands to where you are so the bird can be with you.
