Belly fluid - Borna Virus?

by Sean Mac

I am very certain that my little Pionus had the Borna virus, but the vet is not sure as she did not think that the Borna virus caused fluid in the abdomen, which was removed several times. When the X-Rays were done with barium, it was too much for his little body to handle after being so ill for a month, and he expired. I cannot tell you how guilty we feel and how devastated we are; our own golden age has difficulty dealing with this tragedy in our lives.

Could the Borna virus cause this problem?

Dr., your remarks about the belly fluid is appreciated. It does help knowing, and necropsy is not possible. We'll just have to live with it.

Borna Virus?
by: The Avian Vet

I am so sorry for your loss. This does not sound like Bornavirus; abdominal fluid is not a typical symptom. The only way to know what happened is to have your bird necropsied (animal autopsy). Abdominal fluid can be caused by liver disease, heart disease, reproductive disease and a few others.
