B&G macaw brining up feed
by: Linda

Normally, this is a sign of love for a human, another bird or even a toy. If he continues to throw up quite often and a lot of food, he is SICK and will need to be seen by an Avian Vet. Tracie has a link out here to help find an Avian Vet. Your bird must ALWAYS be seen by an Avian (bird) vet because dog and cat vets are not licensed and trained to diagnose and treat birds, so they do more harm than good.

Being that your baby B&G is only 10 weeks old, he still needs to be handfed baby parrot formula with a syringe until he is around 6 months old. He can be partially weaned, and the feedings cut down to one or two as he ages, but baby Macaws in the wild are fed for up to a year by their Mothers while they are being taught how to feed themselves. This could be a reason why he is throwing up his food too. Baby Macaws, his young age, are not able to fully digest seeds, and you need to be weaning him onto an organic pelleted diet like Harrisons anyway as seeds are poor nutrition for any parrot.Tracie carries both the Harrisons and the Baby Parrot Handfeeding formula out here. I'm serious about handfeeding him until he is much older as he will not do well if forced to try and feed himself when he's not able to do so. Handfeeding is a learned skill, so ask your Avian Vet or a Macaw breeder to show you how to feed him as Macaws are a little tricky to feed with the syringe. They shake their heads a lot during feeding, and more can be on bird than in him, so get your handfeeding formula, two 60cc syringes, and he will use both of them per meal, and find someone who knows what they are doing to show you how to feed him properly.

Go ahead and get him into see an Avian Vet, first, in your area. If it means driving for two hours, then this is what you have to do in order to make sure he is not sick and for yearly checkups.
