Bird Ate Tic
by: Anonymous

Don't worry about your bird eating a tic, it won't hurt him. I am sure that he killed it first. I know first hand how fast a bird can be. And yes, those comments were vicious. I am sure there is nobody out there that is perfect. And by the way, my own avian vet says that it is perfectly okay if your bird goes onto the floor. When people post a question for support it is so unkind to ostracize them.

My apologies for not reading the posts before making them live. Birds can eat most bugs as long as the bugs have not eaten poison.

REsponse to hateful people
by: Anonymous

Oh my gosh, didn't realize people were going to be so hateful!
I do have five small Maltese dogs and they don't have ticks either does my house. We are extremely clean, which is how we found it. We were taking it off one of the dogs and my Sun flew over and grabbed it off the counter. It was in a split second and I was shocked at how fast he moved in and took it.
My only mistake is that I should have put him away before we started taking it off the dog. I just didn't realize how fast he could get something like that.
Just to answer your hateful remarks, my Sun has a wonderful home and we are about the cleanest people I know. I feel bad that the only people who responded could be hurtful instead of helpful, what a shame!

Bird ate a tick.

Yeah, I'm wondering too how your bird got a hold of a tick, and are you certain it's a TICK he ate?

Seriously, keep the bird off the floor, and away from other pets that go outdoors. Clean your bird's area 100% to make sure there's no more ticks he can get a hold of. Probably best to keep him off furniture the other pets have been on too.

What I'm wondering is how your bird was where he could eat a tick in the first place. Keep your bird up off the floor and off the ground because this is where birds get ticks, fleas and countless other pests that WILL hurt them and make them seriously ill. Keep an eye on him to see if any symptoms of illness appear. If they do, get him to an Avian Vet ONLY quickly.

It is very important you keep him up off the floor and ground. A bird with a flea/tick infestation is not a pretty sight, and they can kill the bird. Birds don't normally get fleas and ticks because they stay up off the ground except for short periods when eating.
