bird has bad breath

A healthy bird eating a healthy diet will never have bad breath. By healthy diet, I mean 80-85% organic pellets, no seeds, no human food, no junk food pellets like Zupreem or Lafaebers and definately no meat or eggs or anything like that. Feed parrots parrot food and the highest quality you can find. There are several kinds found here with Harrison's being the best.

Before any dietary changes, your bird needs to be examined by an Avian Vet because this sounds like it could be a physical issue with food rotting in the crop. When digestion shows down because of illness, the food just sits in the crop and rots. This would make a bird's breath very very bad.

Find an Avian Vet and have your bird examined for infections or other physical issues before beginning any dietary changes. After that, here is an article written by an Avian Vet on how to go about making the change from seed diet to pellets:

Let us know what Avian Vet has to say, and thanks for writing,
Linda
