hello. I have a senagal parrot and around 5 hours ago he went after a dog and the dog got him. He isn't bleeding and is eating fine and is grooming himself but one foot is bothering him. he isn't putting much pressure on it. I don't have the money to go to a vet if its something that he will get over in a week but was wondering if there is anything i can do for him to help it heal. I don't think it is broken.

hurt birds

I hate to sound mean, but really, and this goes for everyone, If you cannot afford a vet, you shouldn't own such a delicate animal.

I hate hearing about such beautiful creatures being injured, or sick, and the owners cannot afford a vet. Or arent smart enough to KNOW, Hey my bird tore his talon off... Let me post on a forum while he bleeds, when it should of been taken to a vet right away.

I hate to say it, but either find a way to get him into a vet, or find someone else to take him who can afford a vet.

Please... Don't let your bird sit there and suffer. It's not fair to him.

Your bird, should be seen ONCE a year by an avian vet. Birds won't always tell you when they are sick, or injured until they are moments from death. A yrly checkup is a MUST! If you can't afford this, don't get a bird.

Sorry, but it had to be said.
I wish you and your bird lots of luck.

Please keep the other pets out of the room when your bird is out, and clip it's wings to prevent injuries.

Bird attacked by dog has hurt foot

Dr B suggests that you Find an Avian Vet to examine the bird, because it may have a broken bone or even internal injuries you can't see. You also need to make sure the bird does not get an infection.

I guess it goes without saying that you need to make sure the wings get trimmed and make sure the dog and bird are NEVER out in the same room. We actually lock the doors and put huge notes on the outside of the doors so that nobody comes in and accidentally lets the dog in when our birds are out.

If your bird is allowed on the floor, it has a very high chance of getting stepped on, chewing something toxic, getting trapped somewhere and getting hurt.
