Bird Illness

by Shoaib

It has been 3-4 days since I have purchased a pair of crested love birds. I found that the female one was good going from the next day only but the male is worrying me. The male has watery droppings, would not make noise, would not play around nor even with the female and is just sleepy all the time.
(Male Greenish & Female Yellow)
Please help me!

Bird Illness
by: Sandra D Singh

Hi Shoaib,
PLEASE take your BIRDS as soon as possible to an Avian Vet. It doesn't matter if only ONE bird is sick, you MUST take BOTH birds to the vet, and immediately. Those Budgies are very precious and YOU are the one that has to make sure they're in good health. They can't go themselves to the vet when they feel sick, you know? We are responsible for our animals, the same as our children. Please don't delay with this but act fast, good luck and God bless.

New birds
by: Alex

Those are lovely budgies.

It is advised that all new birds have an annual health check soon after purchase wth an avian (bird) vet to check for any diseases, as these can spread rapidly due to how many birds are in one cage at the pet shop.

Budgies hide disease as ther natural instinct is to pretend they are well as sick lookng birds are easy prey for predators. By the time they show illness they are very sick.

Luckily they cannot disguise their droppngs so that made your job easier.

Get your bird to an avian vet very soon so that he can be diagnosed and treated. Your female will need to be examined too as he may have passed the illness on.

Good luck

Sick bird with runny poop and quiet
by: Tracie

The pictures attached are budgerigar (budgie) not lovebirds. Your bird(s) are likely sick, maybe with a disease, so you need to find an avian vet right away to examine them and run tests.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.
