bird laying eggs

by peace bhamra
(india)

i have two budgies about two years old. the female is laying eggs(3 till now). she lays it while sitting on the perch and also doesn't seem interested on hatching it. What should i do? How do i stop her from laying eggs? She seems weak, can you suggest some vitamins for her as i dont have an avian vet nearby.

you could always buy vitamins for cage birds...i give that to my parrot and he seems to of become healthier, but i would highy suggest seeing an avian as they would know better! :)

Editor's note: vitamins sold in pet stores are toxic and may end up killing your bird by over taxing their kidneys.

budgie laying eggs and not sitting on them

Just in case, please check our Find an Avian Vet page and search the links at the top of the page too. It would be best if you fed your birds 70% Harrison's or Roudybush pellets and 30% treats (no more than 10% seeds). An avian vet may have these for sale in their office.

Also, please read our Chronic Egg Laying article for how to care for birds that lay eggs. Since the bird is not interested in the eggs, you can throw them away.

Sometimes shortening their daytime light, simulating winter, will help birds to stop laying eggs.
