bird ripping tissues

by Carrie

My Parrotlet loves to rip up tissues. I typically don't let her because I'm afraid she'll eat part of the tissue. Would it be ok if I let her?

bird ripping tissues

This is not the best idea for your bird. A better idea that is cheaper and less dangerous is unprinted newspaper which can be found at local newspaper offices. They have partial rolls left from one printing to another, and they usually sell these very, very cheap just so someone can use it. We buy it for our bird's double macaw cage bottoms, and it lasts a long time too.

The tissue is probably made using some harmful chemicals, so it would be best to get some of the unprinted newspaper as it is safe, clean and you can also use it to line her cage bottom.

Thanks for writing,
Linda
