Bird Owner Choices
by: Terry

It seems that whether to constrain a bird or let them wander is a serious choice. In my home, we let our birds wander and attempt to keeep the environment clear of hazards. We have never had an issue.

Throughout life, I always kept my birds in cages to protect them. I married a man from Kenya, who felt that it was very cruel to restrict and confine a bird to that degree. I used to disagree with thim, but having experienced both sides, I now agree with him.

I think bird owners need to be aware of the hazards of both types of bird raising, and then they need to make the choice that is right for their family and pet.

Bird w/ red Poop

I agree with the other person's posting. Take your bird to a vet, and dont leave your bird running about the house. It's not a cat or a dog. Greys are smart, it's like leaving a 3-5 yr old child unattended, only they still chew.

Your bird does need outside time, dont take that away, just by a stand, and keep him supervised. I made a bird perching tree myself (I am female, so anyone can do it!) Went to lowes and bought all my supplies there.

Look up some ideas of how you want it to look on the net, or draw on paper, so when you go to the store, you know what parts to buy. I used PVC pipe, which I washed up really well after purchase. I used no glues or chemicals as it all pops right together. I used a burlap type string to cover the perches where he will be sitting so he's got grip. I got some eye hooks this allows me to hang toys from higher perches.

My perching tree is light weight, and portable, Goes anywhere in the house, so my bird always has a safe place to be.

Remember the perching tree doesnt have to be too elaborate. Just make sure it's stable for your birds weight and size. Mine has 4 perches, with 2 more up top to hang toys from. I also have a table top perch, cost me $20 to buy. My birds are never out, unless someone is there to watch them. Please, I suggest you use the same precautions for your birds sake and health.

Please get your little guy to the vet. It could be serious. Red poop is a bad sign.

Bird with red poop wanders the house
by: Tracie

What you need more than a pet door, is to keep your bird on a play stand or in it's cage. Your bird can be chewing toxic items and may get injured any number of ways just wondering around unsupervised.

Please Find an Avian Vet right away to examine your bird and have the vet clip your bird's wings. Then purchase a play stand or make a stand for your bird to be with you when it is out of the cage.
