Bird with swollen blind eye

by F B

My lorikeet is over 10 year old and has gone blind in both eyes, this has happened over a 2 year period, one eye first and then the other one. She has white cloudy marks on her eye, I have taken her to the vets several times and they don't really know why it has happened, they said maybe she has hit her eye on something.

I have gone over her cage thoroughly and I cant see anything sharp that could of done that. The eye that has gone blind this time is also swollen and annoying her, she has antibiotics drops I am putting in but she just keeps scratching it. I just thought you could tell me of a breeder or bird expert I could ring that my know what it is.

Possibly an infraorbital sinus infection. Maybe a swelling (mass or abscess) behind the eye. Intraocular infection (inside the eye). "Glaucoma"-like disorder. Regardless of the cause, this is very serious, painful, and potentially life threatening if left untreated. Be sure to see an AVIAN veterinarian.
