Birds and New carpet

by Emily

Is it safe for my bird to stay in my one room apartment if the hallway outside my door is being recarpeted? They will not be using glue or hot irons. I've gotten contradictory answers online and from vet techs. With no glue and if I seal off the bottom of the door while they are installing, is there still a risk?

Birds and getting new carpet

You need to ventilate the room and keep the bird out of the room for 5-7 days. If the carpet has been treated with Scotch Guard, be sure that it is completely dry before your bird has access.

If they are only doing the hallway outside your apartment it should be okay. Go ahead and put something under the door to block it to be on the safe side. If they are going to do your apartment anytime in the future for either carpet, vinyl or spray for bugs, your birds will have to be removed from the premises. This includes latex paint which can take up to a month to gas out after it is dry.

Thanks for being concerned about your bird's health and wellbeing!
