Birds with black on feathers
by: The Vet

Yes, this is a problem and it may be related to diet, lack of UV light, stress, or disease.

First, be sure your birds are eating a pellet diet. 80% of the diet should be pellets. The best to feed is Harrison's.

Next, provide them with a full spectrum light so they have UV light. This will keep them healthy in many ways, including their feathers.

Next, and most important, take your birds in to see an avian veterinarian. They need a complete work up every year including vaccines. This will help you detect problems early and provide proper treatment. Don?t wait until your bird needs a vet to take them in.

Black spots on bird's feathers
by: Tracie

It could be stress marks. I know someone posted it could be mites, I don't know about that, but what ever you do, do NOT buy anything at a store for mites! The chemicals do more harm than good and often kill birds.

Dr. B should answer this tomorrow for you.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like mites.
