Bleeding wing

by sda
(dssadsa)

HELP! My parakeet is biting his wing and he's bleeding! I'm pretty sure he bit himself because he had a feather in his beak. So what do I do? Go to a vet? please help!

next time have this handy
by: Anonymous

forgot the name, but it's sold in bird stores, and it stops bleeding on contact. I've had to use it a few times while cutting my birds' nails.

hopefully you were able to stop the bleeding.

blood feather
by: windycityparrot

Sounds like a blood feather issue - you can try to use styptic powder - what men use to stop bleeding after shaving. If not available try a bit f cornstarch over the wound.

You may have to pull feather remenents out - a needle nose pliers will work fine and you'l help avoid infection

Bird is bleeding
by: Tracie

Birds bleed out very quickly, so either your bird's bleeding stopped and all is okay or your bird died by the time I read this. I hope all is well.

I suggest you have a Bird First Aid Kit handy for emergencies.

If your bird is plucking or chewing feathers, please read our Feather Damaging Behavior article and also Find an Avian Vet in your area for your bird be examined.
