bloody fatty spot on budgie

bloody fat spot on budgie

bloody fat spot on budgie

I find bloody spot on budgie stomach and after examination i saw fatty deposit on her stomach and a bloody spot on it!
bleeding stopped and started again after she jump on the floor (she's not flying)....it's not bleeding now-I don't allow her to jump from haight any more...She is only about 3-4 month old-why this fat? She is out of the cage regularly and I admit- she is not a big veggie eater, just some grass and corn so I am trying to give her millet instead of seeds and hope she'll start on veggies...what should I do- I can not afford operation...

Bird needs an avian vet
by: The Avian Vet

It is impossible to tell anything from this picture. You need to have this bird examined by an avian veterinarian immediately.

Budgie with bloody spot
by: Tracie

Dr B, nor anyone else, can tell you what is wrong without examining your bird in person. For SURE you have the wrong idea about a proper diet for your bird.

In the wild a budgie will eat grass seeds etc. and that is good because it needs high fat to keep warm and have the energy for foraging. The best diet for a caged budgie is a quality pellet diet like Roudybush or Harrison's - no colored pellets because they are junk food.

Please read our Switching Birds to Pellets article and other articles on bird health on our Parrot Training page.

Thanks for writing, and don't feel bad that you didn't know you were feeding your bird food that is causing fatty liver disease etc. I didn't know either and my first few budgies only lived 2 or less years because of it. Now I have budgies that are over 7 years old and very healthy, thanks to Harrison's pellets. :-)
