Amazon parrot odor

Amazons have a natural odor that you cannot get rid of. It is stronger when they become excited and during the breeding season (which for captive birds can be 6 months out of the year).

If the source of the odor is something else, then you may want to have him examined by a avian veterinarian. Abscesses and other infections can have an odor. Abnormal droppings can also cause an odor that is absorbed into the feathers. If this is a new "problem" then he may be a young bird coming of age, maybe. Or it is a recent infection. Diet and some foods can sometimes affect a bird's smell.

It sounds like he is sick, and he will not get well unless he's taken to an Avian Vet ONLY in your driving area. The avian vet will test him for both bacterial and viral infections. Most birds coming from pet stores and from private homes are already sick with some kind of infection. Do not bathe him anymore because the smell is coming from inside the bird to the outside, and you cannot wash him inside.

Please find an avian vet quickly because he is sick and could have been eating God only knows what on top of that. Let us know what the avian vet has to say.
