Conure broken leg
by: The Avian Vet

It is possible that the leg will be perfectly normal, if it were treated properly and quickly. However, broken bones sometimes heal crooked, but should not affect his ambulatory abilities. If you think there is a problem with the bandage, then you should take him back to the veterinarian for a recheck and x-rays. The winter will not cause him pain.

Why was leg only splinted and cast for 2 weeks as it takes longer for a bone to mend? Also, if it was splinted and NOT cast then bone may have to be rebroken so it can be done properly.

If you took him to an Avian Vet then talk with them about all of this because it does not sound like this was done correctly in which case, he will ALWAYS be in pain from it winter or summer.

Make sure you take him to an Avian Vet because regular dog and cat vets are NOT licensed to treat birds and will not follow correct procedures in treating them. This leads to bird deaths and birds suffering when they do not have to suffer and be in pain.

So, check back with your Avian Vet because two weeks does not sound long enough for a bone to heal properly, and it should have have some kind of cast on over the splinting to keep leg rigid until completely healed and ready to come off.If I have somehow misunderstood what you said, forgive me. If I understood correctly, get this bird back in so this can be taken care of properly or he may end up losing his leg entirely or being in chronic pain for the rest of his life.
