Lovebird turning brown

This could be a nutritional problem or dirty feathers (especially is someone smokes in the home), or it could be a feather fungal infections. These are the most likely causes but there are others; but I do not see how hormones will cause this. You need to see an avian veterinarian with this problem to get a firm diagnosis and recommended treatment.

For the best nutrition you need to be feeding a pellet diet; I recommend Harrison's. It should be 80% of the diet, with 20% treats. Your bird should also get weekly baths to stay clean.

Sick Bird
by: Linda

This is a question for an Avian Vet in your area. I've never seen a bird change color because of nesting and laying eggs. There is something else going on here.

Make an appointment soon as you can and take her to vet to be tested for infections, parasites inside and out. Diet has a lot to do with feather development as well. If she's on an all seed diet, she is malnourished and should be changed over gradually to a pelleted diet like Harrison's. Their food is made from all organically grown foods, and cold extruded to retain most of the vitamins and minerals. It will take some time for the changeover, and will be well worth the time and effort.

So, take your bird to the vet as she sounds like a sick bird to me. If you have a nestbox in cage, take it out and leave it out. Speak with the vet about any questions you may have as that will be a great time to listen and learn.

Let us know how it goes,
