bubble on cheek

by Katie Gussman
(Rancho Palos Verdes, CA)

Hello, This question is about a male Zebra Finch. Our bird has developed a "bubble" on his left cheek under the left eye, and it just keeps growing more and more. I am believing this to be a tumor or something of the sort, yet am not sure. It is red and bleeds from time to time, and now is beginning to scab, because he rubs it on the sticks in his cage. Is this common? We are thinking about taking him to the vet, but if it is a tumor we do not want to go towards surgery.

Thank you,

Katie Gussman

Bird with "bubble" on cheek
by: The Avian Vet

It could be an abscess or sinus infection. It may not need surgery. You need to take him in.
