Budgerigar's Foot - black spot

by Alice

Hi. My Budgie is almost a year old. Recently, a black spot appeared on one of his toes, which are usually pink. It's not pitch black, but sort of a dark grey spot. Any ideas on what it could be? He does not exhibit symptoms of sickness at all. He is active, vocal, and eats and drinks well.

Black spot on budgie's foot

This could be an injury, a cancer, dried food or poop, a circulatory problem, a virus, or one of a number of other things. I recommend that you have your bird examined by an avian veterinarian.

This could be the beginning of an infection, so have him examined by an Avian Vet in your driving area. Take him ONLY to an Avian Vet as they are the only ones licensed and trained to diagnose and treat birds. We recommend yearly Avian Vet visits to make sure bird is healthy and not hiding an infection of some sort.
