Budgie constantly molting

by Jess

My budgie has been constantly molting for a few months now. She drops her feathers, starts growing them back, and then promptly starts dropping feathers again. I starting getting concerned this week when she starting dropping the same feathers on her head that she had already dropped at the beginning of this long molt. She doesn't have any bald spots, and she seems fine otherwise, but I don't like the constant stress this must be putting on her. What can I do to make it stop?

Budgie molting often
by: The Avian Vet

You cannot make it stop. Budgie molts can normally last several months. They have 1000 or more contour feathers and although you see pin feathers on the head several times, it is unlikely that they are actually the same ones molting again so soon. There are disease that can cause molting problems such as PBFD and polyomavirus. I recommend that you have him examined and tested by an avian veterinarian.
