Hi! I was wondering what would be some favorite fruits and vegetables budgies like to eat. I know that they must be organic. Thanks for the information!

which fruit & veggies
by: Anonymous

Budgies (as a species) generally prefer to eat leafy greens, rich orange, red, dark grean veggies, sprouts, herbs. Less of the fruit. They tend to become little fatties if given too much fruit. Fruit is not part of a budgies natural diet.

Suggested diet for budgies
by: Tracie

Different birds like different things, one budgie may devour kale or spinach and the next one may love to chew on a piece of carrot. I suggest you look at our Toxic / Non-toxic for birds list and experiment with safe items.

Be aware that your birds may not like fresh food at all, and that is okay. Also, make sure you are feeding 70% pellets and 30% treats (no more than 10% seeds). This information comes from an avian vet that not only has a practice but also teaches at a university.

You may already feed pellets, but just in case, he suggests you feed Harrison's or Roudybush pellets. He wrote our Switching Birds To Pellets article to help people convert their birds to a healthy diet.
