Budgie does not appear to have control over back toe.

by Selina Odedra
(England)

Hi, My budgie suffered from "Bumblefoot" a few months ago and I gave him antibiotics and plenty of green vegetables to help him recover. He appears to have healed 95% and is no longer limping however one of his toes never moves, I believe he has stopped using it completely and I don't know what to do. Have you got any suggestions?
Many thanks!

Bird had bumblefoot
by: The Avian Vet

This is likely due to scarring. There is nothing that can be done. If the bumblefoot is gone, then this is just how he is going to be. He may improve slightly over time, but not much. I recommend that you take him in for a recheck to be sue everything is OK.

Bumblefoot is caused by two thing, usually in combination ? poor diet (low vitamin A) and improper perches. Birds need a variety of perches and no wooden or plastic dowels. He should sleep on a pedicure perch, like Polly's Pastel Pedicure Perch, to prevent this in the future.
