budgie with bloody protrusion

Hi. It sounds like your bird may be eggbound., She may have an egg in her that she cannot pass. Depending on how far out the protrusion is, you may be able to help her at least pass the egg by putting her in the bathroom, or somewhere with alot of steam from hot water, while she is in a cage or carrier, box, etc. don't get her wet, the steam helps the egg to come out. You can also try to put a warm compress on that area. Be careful handling her, if the egg shell breaks inside her it will kill her. She should be seen by a vet ASAP. This is a lifethreatening situation, the bird could die. The red is some of her internal organs coming out because she is trying to push the egg out. This happened to one of my cockatiels., it is horrible. I hope and pray your bird is OK. Cockatiels lay eggs evem without a male. Or, if you just don't want babies, I ordered fake eggs off internet from bird supply of new hampshire, my birds stopped laying months ago. You put about 6 or so in cage, or whatever amount her clutch is. works great. Pat

Budgie needs to see avian vet
by: Tracie

You will need to Find an Avian Vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be. This is an emergency situation.
