Budgie hen making strange new chirp

I have had Pippin (hen) and Jackson (cock) for about 2.5 years. They have always been together and took an instant liking to each other, performing all the usual courtship rituals without actually mating. Recently, they began mating. I haven't seen any eggs yet, but Pippin is making a very strange new chirp. It is a single tone, high pitch chirp that she only makes while Jackson is feeding her, and she makes it over and over with a 5-10 second pause between each one.

It sounds like a noise a chick would make, however the spacing in between chirps seems longer than it would be with chicks. I am not sure what to make of it. It seems like it could be a begging-for-food kind of thing, but I have never heard it before. Pippin doesn't seem to be the slightest bit sick, so I am not worried, but this strange new chirp has me curious. I can't seem to find any mention of this specific chirp sound/pattern online.

It ended up that she was begging for food because she had avian gastric yeast (formerly known as megabacteria) and had trouble ingesting any real nutrition because of the illness. She was slowly wasting away. I got a diagnosis from a vet, and I treated her for months, but she never got better. Both Pippin and Jackson have since passed away. :(
