Budgie is sick what is it?

Hi...I have a beautiful male budgie who is going on 4 years old. He is very tame, out of his cage most of the time, talks with a vocabulary of about 30 words, and loves affection.

This past week he is very lethargic, comes out and just wants to sit on my finger or shoulder, SO unlike him, isn't eating, or talking, and isn't eating unless I put his seed container in front of him and then still isn't interested in eating. When he sits in his cage he sleeps all the time, and isn't grooming himself like he normally does. His poop is black and sticky feeling, not the usual white in it.

Wondering if he is really sick, or just something he will get over. Love him so much and hate to think he is suffering....

Budgie is sick what is it?

As Tracie said, your bird needs to be examined by an Avian Vet ONLY because he is very sick. It could be a bacterial infection, and the avian vet needs to do a THROAT SWAB to test for bacterial infections and some basic blood work to test for viral infection. It is very important you get him to an avian vet right away because he will die shortly since he does not want to eat or drink. A little bird like him cannot go very long without food and water.

So please take him to an avian vet quickly so he can be diagnosed and treated. The black stool indicates possible internal bleeding which is very dangerous. He's a very sick little bird, and needs an avian vet to figure out what is wrong.

Sick budgie needs avian vet

I wish it were that easy to just diagnose and you go buy something to make your bird well, but it doesn't work that way. Dr B can not tell what is wrong and can not prescribe a treatment over the Internet.

You will need to Find an Avian Vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.
