Budgie not using perches

by Kiran
(Australia)

I just bought a 3 month old budgie yesterday and have set up his cage with 2 tree branch perches of different widths, I have also left in one of the wooden perches that came with the cage. He was using these perches fine yesterday, but for some reason today he seems to just want to stay on the floor of the cage. Is this normal? He has no trouble staying on the perches when coaxed onto them (he just jumps back onto the floor after a while) and he is very alert and active (normal poop, clean vent and feathers not fluffed up, eating normal).

Budgie not using perches
by: Tracie

If you have only had the budgie a couple of days, I would say the bird may be sick. I don't think it would go from one day using the perches to the next day staying on the bottom of the cage.

Often birds are sick from it's previous environment and the stress of moving to a new home allows the infection or disease to overtake them.

If your bird was not checked by an avian vet before bringing it home, then please Find an Avian Vet to examine your bird.
