Beautiful green budgie, Sunny

Beautiful green budgie, Sunny

Hello, I am the very proud 13 year old mother of my little baby named Sunny Jose Garcia ( I call him Sunny, but if he were to have a full name that's what it would be.) My little sunshine is an austrialian budgier also known as a budgie/parakeet.

We aren't quiet sure of the date our baby hatched in or the year as a matter a fact but we came up with a very special Birthday just for him... well we consider the day we got him his Birthday. I've had my baby since I was in Kindergarten, around at the age of 6. He is a little bit old, but he still looks like a little, innocent, adorable, fluffy, baby boy to me. He is literally my son. :D

When I first got my baby at a pet store I had gotten him with his 'brother" Bluey, the other love of my life. Those two brothers were inseprable. I always loved talking to them and they would always be there to listen. At night before I covered their cage, I would say their bednight prayers with them and given them their goodnight kisses.

They would always sleep together all puffed up and adorable side to side. Wing touching wing. The contrast of their colors was so cute. Since Bluey was a gorgeous light Blue colored baby color with a white cotton cloud face, and Sunny is a Bright lime green colored baby with a bright round face that remindes me of the sun.

Sadly a couple of years ago my angel baby Bluey passed away due to a heart attack. It broke my heart to see my baby Sunny depressed. He wouldn't talk for a couple of days. Of course we had a proper funeral for my angel baby and we always put fresh flowers on his grave. But now my little boy Sunny has a brother guardian angel watching over him. Sunny has had alot of other little budgie friends before but we had to give his first friend away because he would dominate Sunny and wouldn't let him eat or drink water, not even sit on his favorite swing, so we gave "Sky" away to another loving family who is still taking care of him to this day.

Sunny's had alot of crushes with a couple of my friends girl budies but has never become a father. Sunny perfers being an only child. He is VERY sociable and tame. He never bites or trys to fly away from a stranger. In 5 seconds of meeting someone and standing on their finger he immidately starts singing to them and kissing them. Sunny only speaks his budgie language, and I go to his cage several times a day to try and immitate his birdie sounds and he gets all excited and runs back and forth on his perch from me to his mirror repeating the sounds i make and comes running back to me to cock his head and listen to me or join along.

We always keep Sunny's cage open so he has the freedom to get out of his cage and sit on the kitchen windowseal or fly in a loop around the living room and fly back to his cage. Sometimes he lands on your head while you sit and watch T.V. and talks to you for a ehile, later flying down onto your shoulder and playing with your jewlry if your wearing any. So as you can tell he is very energetic and extremly nice.

My bird is only load when he gets hyper or hears the water fauset turn on. Sometimes we take him outside to the deck in his cage with the cage door closed and he would start singing wilodly with other birds. Occasionaly mocking another birds call. When he goes to his avian vet Dr.Schiffer for his check up and beak trims/ toe nail trimes. never bites the vet or anything! He basically just lays on his back in my hands and he gets it over with. :D

On our way to the vet and back we let him sit on my finger, look into a mirror and sing along with the radio. He has a very comfortable trasportable birdie bag he is carried in. Living with Sunny has been the bigest blessing in my life. and yes i can say this even though I'm just 13. My budgie is my baby, my love, my joy, my son, my friend, he is everything to me! He is such a well behaved baby! I will never stop loving him!

The Beauty of George

by Yasmeen
(North Andover Massachusetts USA)

Nobody really knows what kind of parakeet he is but he sure is a cuddly sweet bird!! George hatched in april 2008. George is most definetly a family bird that loves people and does not get scared easily unless he does not know you and you stick your hand in his cage.

Again George is very very cuddly and loves being pet!! We are actually not really sure of the gender since he is still so small but we think its a boy. George is definetly not loud and since he is not even 1 yet he does not really know what it means when you put your finger in front of him and say step-up.

My previos parakeet actually passed away recently and we immiedietly went to Petco to replace it. George is a really nice aqua blue baby parakeet and I will never ever even think of giving this beautiful baby away!!!!!!

Mickey and Minnie update with baby picture

Mickey & Minnie Offspring-Fussy

Mickey & Minnie Offspring-Fussy

Mickey and Minnie hatched babies. I had updated earlier. This is a picture of one of the babies I kept and his picture after about 2 months. I think it is a "he". He is very friendly, does not bite hard and a real character.

As I said before I did not intend to have these birds breed but after 4 years, no nest box they took things into there own hands. I found homes for all and kept just one for the grandkids. A real learning experience. Mickey and Minnie now live "next door" to each other and are doing find in their "single" life. We named him Fussy as he fusses about the cover being put on his cage, the phone ringing and when the dog barks. The rest of the time he chatters and chirps. Very playfull. Loves a Practice Golf ball, a plastic one with holes in it. He carries it around and throws it all over the cage.

opening up wings

Hello! I am a 12 year old girl and I wanted to write a story about my 2 budgie parakeets, Sasha and Johnny!

Sasha is a baby blue girl that is about only 3-4 months. Johnny is a boy which is the color bright yellow with a light green stomach and he is only 3-4 month years old as well.

Sasha loves to move but gets jealous of Johnny whenever I carry him. She can sometimes be nice. Johnny is very nice and loves to eat. Most of the time he doesnt try to bite Sasha or be mean to her, he tries to be good. The only thing that isnt good about them is that they are very scared of human hands n try to fly away because when i hold them i hold them with my pink gloves that they are confromtable with.

If you have any advice or a way i can make them get use to hands to please let me know.
THANK YOU

Ollie the Budgie

Ollie the Budgie

Ollie the Budgie

My daughter wanted to get a friend for Sunshine, her Budgie, about a year after she brought him home. When we went to get our Conure's wing and nail trim at the breeder, she picked out Ollie.

At first Ollie was a little bully and we thought he would have to be housed alone. After a couple of days, he settled in and quit chasing Sunshine from the food dish and toys.

Ollie and Sunshine never have become friends. They tolerate each and mostly ignore each other. We had hoped that they would preen each other and be friends. We are disappointed that it didn't work out that way.

We are still happy that they have each other even if they don't preen and play together.

Sunshine talks up a storm. He is our best talker and learns new phrases all the time. Ollie talks, but he only repeats some of what Sunshine says.

Both birds were originally hand fed and hand tame. My daughter did not take the time necessary to keep them that way, so they are not hand tame at all. They do both like to come to the side of the cage and get treats from our hands.

We think Budgies are very smart and fun birds to own.

Parakeets Mickey and Minnie

by Jean

parakeets Mickey and Minnie

parakeets Mickey and Minnie

Mickey and Minnie, named by my grandchildren are a very fun pair of parakeets. I have had them for 3 years. They are in a large cage and tame. They are a great source of fun for me and my grandchildren.

They are on a pellet and seed diet and have had no health problems.

In March of this year I was cleaning their cage and as usual they had shredded a few things. To my surprise I found 2 eggs. They DO NOT have a nest box as I see no reason to breed them. Well they had a different idea this year!

I removed the eggs and then did some research. I changed the lining from paper towels to newsprint (no colors), rearranged their cage some. I was afraid they were determind and read they may keep doing this and not good for their health. One article said they must feel very secure and to get a dog..........have one! I moved their cage some and also changed the cycle of the floor lamp that comes on automacticly daily. So far no more eggs.

When I went online for information and called the vet found that this does happen frequently. I wasn't interested in the hormone treatment and hoped to stop this before it became a problem. so far so good. I did also put a couple of glass marbles in the cage and they push them around.

I guess these guys did not read all the books I did and were not worried about a nest box and decided to build one in the bottom back corner of the cage.

I have two other birds in a different part of the house and have not seen any diffence in their behavior. The new birds are Lovebirds, Heckle and Jeckle. They are doing great also.

Buggie

by JJ
(United States)

I just got a English budgie about a few days ago. When i first got him i decided to name hime buggie because i always liked that name, and his face is so cute so i thought it would match him perfectly.

At the petstore i noticed that his foot looked funny, but when my mom told the pet store guy, he just said that it was the way he was holding onto the toy. I didn't really beleive the man, but i didnt really care what his foot looked like anyway.

I was a little nervous because when the man grabbed him out of the cage to clip his wings and put him in the box he said he didn't actually know how to clip his wings. The wings turned out fine though.

When we got him home with his sister we had a bigger cage that we put them in, but the bars on the cage floor were to big that my bird and the other budgie kept falling through the floor. We ended up moving them to my older sisters bird cage that had her cockateil in it. she put her cockateil in the bigger cage and we put the budgies in the smaller cage.

Once they were settled in i noticed that both my bird buggies feet were demented, and my sisters bird had a really long beak. My bird kept falling off the perch so after a few days i lowered the perches.

My sisters birds beak got trimmed and now they are fine. I think they are about 6 or 7 months old because they still have black lines on there heads. My bird buggie gets along with other people but i think he knows i'm his owner. I think that buggie likes to snuggle because he lets me pet him and when i take him out of his cage he likes to go on my shoulder.

My bird isn't loud but he does talk alot when hes happy or wants to get out of his cage. I think my bird wouldn't care who held him. I really like living with my budgie, soon i'm going to teach him tricks and try teaching him to talk. He's the best bird i've had in my life as long as i can remember.

This is what it looks like. (only prettyier!)

Well, you see, my nanny has a pile of budgies, and of course, they have babies and more babies and more! So... that's where I normally get my budgies.

Right now, I have a beautiful budgie that is white! White and I mean white. That is the only colour! I am not good at explaining and I say you are thinking that it is a horrible colour bird, BUT IT IS NOT! It is the prettyest bird alive!!!! I love her and may I will forever!!!!!!!

Captain Corky the Budgie

by Lynn
(Barrie, Ontario, Canada)

Corky slipped in a wine glass....

Corky slipped in a wine glass....

Corky came into our lives 8 years ago and it has never been the same since! Corky is a green male Budgie hatched October 1998. He may "only be a Budgie" but they are much smarter than anyone realizes.

Corky has a vocabulary of at least 150 words at any given time and can easily say four to 5 word phrases. He drops some words when he picks up new ones! He can even tell each family member apart from the way he reacts and responds to you when called or when you enter the room, etc. He has been trained by my daughter to fly to you when called.

Corky loves his lettuce, talking and feeding his favourite toys! He brings joy to the home because he is always chirpy and happy! There is nothing more pleasurable then opening the front door to his excited welcome home chirps!

Be it known that Budgies can get themselves in all kinds of trouble just like the big parrots! When you look at the picture of him included here it was lucky my daughter was at home at the time! She was drinking water out of a wine glass when Corky decided he was going to have try some too, only he fell in and she had to rescue him out. (This picture is a re-enactment of what he looked like the first time!)

Corky likes our Sun Conure too but she is not quite so fond of him!

Update 9/11/08

He is nearly 9 years old and I know not unusual for budgies to come to their flock when called.. but he will respond to not only "where are you Corky? "Chirp Chirp"... "I am worried about you Corky I can't see you... please come Corky" ... he will immediately fly to me. All you have to do is repeat the exact same words for years... patience is important with budgies but they can learn anything.

How about this.... when he has red Zuhpreem pellets or whole wheat pasta stuck to his beak and all over his head... I will say from the bathroom or kitchen sink... "Corky come here and get your face washed".. he will fly to the counter and land right beside the sink and stay still. I then proceed to pick him up, turn on the tap wet my fingers and clean his face (beak and head) with my fingers.. I think the incentive here is he gets an entire head massage... loves under the beak massage as well. Hee hee.
