red lump

Hazel, you have no choice but to take the bird to an avian vet.

My 2 budgies do not like being handled, but they MUST be examined in person to gain a diagnosis and receive treatment.

Red lump above her eye
by: Hazel

Hi there, my female budgie has a red lump above her eye, similar to that of simon. She acts and plays, eats normal. She comes to you no problem but had never been caught/handled and fir thus reason I think a visit to a vet would traumatise her. Can you give me any info on what the lump might be. She is 3 years old.
Editor's note: In the future if you want people to see and answer, you need to post a question, not an answer here to another question, on our Parrot Questions page.

Please use this Find an Avian Vet link to find an avian vet for your bird so it can be examined to determine what is wrong and what the potential treatment might be.

budgie eye problem
by: Alex

Your best course of action is to see an avian vet. Also, stop using the ointment. If something has not been prescribed or approved by an avian vet, then it should not be used.

He or she can then examine the eye and see what course of action needs to be taken.

Let us know how he gets on at the vet.

My lovebird has similar issue.

I took my bird to the vet. After thoroughly examining her , it was found to be a laceration as a result of fighting with Madison (2nd lovebird). Both have damage to their beaks and Juillet is either losing her feathers from stress or Madison is plucking them out. I've been told they will have to be separated. I have Juilliet on antibiotics just in case her injuries become infected.

I just noticed the lump 2 hrs ago. She has been plucking her feathers for the last week and now has this lump with red spots on her eyelid. It seems to be stopping her from opening her eye fully. Fortunately she has a vet appointment at 7 pm tonight. I'll post what the vet tells me. I hope it can be sorted easily.
