Budgie sore chest

My budgie saw an avian vet a few months ago due to feather plucking and was treated accordingly, although the treatment was put on hold as she became very ill (unrelated) and was treated at an emergency appointment.

She completed treatment after she got better and I was advised that her feathers on her chest and abdomen where she plucked could take some time to come back.

It has been about 3 months since and the feathers are coming back slowly.

Every time she preens her chest / abdomen area she lets out a shriek, so I guess the area is quite sore.

Do I need to consult the avian vet again or can I "treat" her at home and if so, how?

The area does not look red although it is hard to tell as the area is a bit of a mess with tatty down looking feathers popping up everywhere and she absolutely refuses to be handled.

Both budgies are on Harrison's Pellets an have a small amount of seed of an evening.

Any and all advice greatly appreciated.

Budgie with a sore chest from plucking

Since the bird has been seen by an avian vet, I would call the vet office and check with them. Unless the vet prescribes something, you just need to let the bird heal.

If the air is very dry where you live, you may have to mist the bird a few times a day. Check with the avian vet though, they are your best resource.
